It is this unnecessary war and Washington's subsequent collaboration with London, resulting in two world wars, that are the foundations of the present era. In particular, the American train wreck in the Greater Middle East and the atrocity of 9/11 itself can be traced to Washington's ill-advised foreign policy over many years, presided over by both political parties.
