It was in this environment that new philosophical movements flourished, including Stoicism, Skepticism, and Epicureanism, each offering a unique answer to the question of how to achieve eudaimonia, or human flourishing. Epicurus distinguished himself by rejecting the dominant ethical doctrines of both Plato and Aristotle, as well as the fatalistic determinism of the Stoics.
