Though most of Jack London's novels and short stories fall firmly into the action-adventure category, the prolific author occasionally ventured into other genres, as well. In this case, London ventures into the realm of science fiction again with the title story “ The Red One.” A scientist collecting butterflies in the jungle encounters a giant red sphere from another world used by natives performing human sacrifices.
The collection includes three other stories: “ The Hussy”, “ Like Argus of the Ancient Times” and “ The Princess.”
