After the family expanded, a larger group was formed, the city, which received from religion its laws, principles, customs, and positions. The state has it, but these ancient beliefs have changed or disappeared over time, which led to a change in private law and political systems. The Greeks and Romans did not believe in the separation of the soul from the body after death. Rather, they believed that it remained close to the body and continued to live underground. Therefore, they adhered to some traditional rituals, including offering food and drink to the dead regularly, otherwise the dead would emerge from their graves as wandering ghosts. Then a whole religion arose around death, where the dead were, in the Greeks' belief, sacred beings, and they called them the lower gods, and the graves became the temples of these deities.
