The situation is soon linked to a larger threat: the effort of reunited demons to conquer the world. The Guardians, a heterogeneous group of unlikely demon fighters under the leadership of a medieval witch out of her time, drift across the Atlantic to England to join the struggle. Their focus becomes a talisman known as the Heart of Arundel, a key to that source of power called the seastone. A desperate search by Guardians and demons to the Heart leads to the final confrontation of the witch and her companion, the holder of the master key, with the combined demons on a ruined castle tower in Wales. The long war between Guardians and demons approaches its climax.
