The author shows how it was impossible to divorce higher education from politics. He pungently but good humouredly criticises many well-known figures in the educational and colonial worlds. Race relations play a large part in this story and the author paints a picture of black and white races working together as equals. This is an important historical reference work for scholars and researchers of African history, African education and African studies.
