Amira saw her home burned to the ground and spent years searching the continent for her father and brother, the only survivors of the attack. She wound up locked up for her efforts, accused of witchcraft and ordered to repent or be burned. She flees south and ends up at a monastery of heretical pacifists. Among them is someone she thought lost forever, her younger brother, a monk himself now, determined to save anyone in need, regardless of their sins. Her hopes of finding the rest of her family are shattered though, when she discovers a wounded mercenary being nursed back to health by the monks. This man was her father's lieutenant. He turned his captain in to the church, denouncing him as a devil, a wielder of blood magic, and the holy knights slaughtered every man in that unit. Amira cuts his throat for that, but allows the monks to save him before he bleeds out, for the sake of her brother. She'll do whatever she can to protect the boy, but her own presence is putting him in danger at the moment, as the church's troops have followed her. They will strike down any that stand in the way of bringing her to justice. Another ghost of the past steps in as the knights attempt to carry out their threats and cleanse this blasphemous temple of life. It's Amira's older brother, Aurem.
