This book is about my life experiences, my own personal pain and trauma from a life long journey filled with addictions from loved ones, as well as the learning and realization that in order to help others you have to stop enabling them, taking responsibility for them, and trying to control them and force them to make changes. It is about allowing them to face their own consequences and live their own life paths. This book is about learning to take care of yourself, even when everything around you is dark and hopeless. It is about us finding ourselves, our hope and courage to make changes in only those we can control: ourselves. It teaches us that self care, is not selfish, but is very important and vital in our personal growth and recovery. It teaches us to not be dependent on others for Our happiness, self-worth, or purpose. It teaches us to love ourselves, accept ourselves where we are at, and take care of ourselves, so that we are able to support others, without becoming entangled and one with their addictions and behaviors.

Shannon Martin was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona. She is a Mother of 4 amazing adult children. She has 2 Grandchildren that bring her endless joy, and laughter. Shannon earned her Master's degree from Arizona State University in Social Work, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Arizona which she is a native of. Shannon has over 25 years experience working in the Public Mental health system for Arizona, and is currently a Therapist specializing in helping families, and individuals live life to the fullest. She recognizes that life has set backs, and helps others recognize their self awareness, and find the strength to regain their power so that they can accomplish their life goals, have peace of mind, and a healthy life balance. Shannon understands that to assist others overcoming these obstacles they must be met where they are, assisting them in identifying their goals and strengths, and teaching them new personal and relationship skills that will support their changes and growth. Shannon has many years of experience helping others, as well as her own personal trauma, pain, and journey with a life long addictions from those of loved ones. Through her experiences, she has realized that she has been Co-Dependent on others, enabling them by trying to control their behaviors and force them to change, taking away their responsibility and consequences. She has learned that her behaviors have not been effective to others or herself. Understanding and teaching that as you try to rescue and save others you lose yourself, and become dependent on others to define you and your self worth. This is Shannon's first book, her life experience and story is a true reminder that happiness, and growth only comes from letting go of others, loving them and supporting them, but not allowing yourself to carry their burdens, or be responsible for their behaviors. It is a reminder that self care is the priority, that you can only control your own behaviors, and have to let others live their own lives, whatever that may look like. Finally, it is a reminder for us all, to love who you are, don't be afraid to grow and change for yourself, but don't change to fit into others lives, or be something that you are not comfortable with; be you! Live your best life, you are only here for a short time, embrace your past , all your experiences, and life lessons, as they made you who you are today. Never stop learning or growing to the best you can be for yourself and others, knowing your purpose, and leaving a legacy for generations to come.
