"Overall, I was quite satisfied with the text. It provides an appropriate mix of theory, intuition, and practice, making an understanding of the method (and extensions to it) clear... Of particular note is the way the text deals with model assumptions: the assumptions are laid out clearly and their source explained. Then, through the applied examples, the practical performance characteristics are described, i.e. when violating an assumption is 'okay' and when it can substantially affect your analysis. This provides a well-rounded view of the method and its limitations, both theoretical and applied... The examples used came from a wide varietyof applications, going well beyond vaccine safety. This allowed for a wide coverage of different types of scenarios as well as a general vocabulary. It was engaging and encouraged the reader to consider the possible applications in their own areas of research...
