Tinnitus is often called ringing in the ears but it may also sound like blowing, humming, roaring, buzzing, hissing, whistling, or sizzling. The sounds the patient hears can be soft or noisy. Nearly every body notices a mild form of tinnitus once in a while that only lasts a few minutes. Constant or returning tinnitus is upsetting and makes it difficult to focus or sleep.
