In Washington D.C. Agent Mark Gordon is on the trail of kidnappers that he suspects is responsible for the disappearance of some very influential scientist and people in the area. Just when he is ready to make his move and bust the culprits he is removed from the case and told to back off. He puts his car in gear to leave and as he does the building where the suspects are explodes leaving no evidence except for a strange mark that was made on the ground at the center of the explosion. Just as he has a thousand questions to ask about what happened and why he was taken off the case he is transferred out to the Kansas office where similar events have been occurring. Scientist and influential people seem to be disappearing there as well.
