He continues to watch toward the shore to make sure he is not in danger of being run over by a cargo ship heading to the port of Lázaro Cárdenas. After a little while, the wind picks up again. Mark happens to turn, looking farther out to sea and sees an island several miles out. He had never seen it on any maps or Google Earth. His curiosity gets the best of him and he decides to sail to the island to check it out. Little does he realize the consequences of making that decision. It was going to completely change his entire life.
