This book contains a collection of articles that are the culmination of insights and observations I have gained through my academic pursuits and practical experience in the media spanning nearly four decades. These insights and observations, in addition to general media issues, include writings on television and radio, new media, print and publishing, and culture. The real problem I have encountered in journalistic writing is how to reconcile what I write as a journalist with my official work at the Ministry of Culture and Information. This somewhat limits the freedom of expression and discussion, and also makes the reader view my writings as that of a responsible employee, not a journalist or writer. I have watched many television interviews with prominent figures, but the person conducting these interviews has repeatedly repeated questions and topics that the guest had previously addressed in other media outlets, and whose answers are now well-known. So why the repetition? More ministers have begun, or are on their way to, opening Facebook pages. They must take into account the overwhelming flood of questions, comments, and requests they will face. If the response doesn't match the joy and aspirations of those who benefit and await it, the outcome will be negative, and we will lose a tool at our disposal that many are counting on to succeed. Ultimately, we must feel within ourselves that criticism is a source of strength for us, as it charts the right path for our journey. We must develop the inner conviction that the critic is diligent, and that our acceptance of our shortcomings is not evidence of our weakness or immaturity. Al-Obeikan Publishing
