To alleviate the problem of the growing number of unwanted pregnancies, America aimed to be the first nation to eliminate orphans. The Heartbeat Sharing Program was implemented to achieve this goal. Except it was enacted in haste, before all of the unintended consequences revealed themselves. After fifteen years, the problems created appeared insurmountable. Through it all, Pastor Calvin endeavored to serve his congregation as well as the community. But when the cracks in the Heartbeat Sharing Program turned life threatening, this goal became impossible.
