Sir Francis Cowley Burnand, commonly known as F. C. Burnand, was a celebrated English humorist and playwright, whose literary career spanned much of the Victorian era. Born on November 29, 1836, in London, Burnand was an alumnus of Trinity College, Cambridge, where he first began to flex his comedic and literary muscles by contributing to college magazines. His oeuvre is extensive, encompassing burlesques, farces, comedies, and novels.
