It was suspected that the natives had some involvement with an ancient gold ship wreck. Phenomenon that looked like space ships was seen and they seemed to have something to do with the gold.
To help his work, Gary decided to build a casino on the island. That was less than desirable with Mom's desire to have hr Christianly Garden of Eden resort.
