On the other hand both super affluence and extreme poverty can be socially disturbing. Reflecting on political, economic and social changes in India during the last half century, he finds a remarkable resilience in Indian society. It has accomplished without violence changes of a magnitude which even change oriented societies find it difficult to accomplish. His acute observation of Indian society makes him optimistic about India''s political and economic future.
