God changed King Saul's inner disposition through his anointing by the Holy Spirit. This change was unconditional or permanent, but something that could be maintained only by the Holy fellowship with a loving obedience to God. God's anointed king is Jesus, the Messiah the anointed one. Whom God anointed with the Holy Spirit. All believers of Jesus Christ must be anointed with the same Holy Spirit as a new covenant priests and kings.
