Thinking he was going to be locked up for a long time, he started to read the book to learn more about prison life. He discovered the tale of an alcoholic World War II veteran, his run-in with the law, and his subsequent decision to be a Christian. Having no concept of who Jesus Christ was or what it meant to be a Christian, he then picked up one of the Bibles and began to read.
