Jay Mannion is a professor of Communication Theory at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. He's long dreamed of being a romance author, having grown up reading his mother's library of "bodice rippers," but he's found his mind tends to bend stories in a way incompatible with traditional category romance. "It's been a struggle," he says, "trying to hew to the narrow path of romance novels. Only once I realized what I'm writing isn't really romance was I able to cut loose."

His first series, Before She Was a Porn Star, is an erotic coming of age tale about a young man who dates a woman whose desire for sexual experimentation pushes her towards a career in porn.
