Séamus Barra Ó Súilleabháin, a poet, rapper, and songwriter from Kerry, performs hip-hop under the name Súil Amháin and is a leading figure in modern Irish-language poetry. Born in London and raised in Listowel, County Kerry, Séamus spent time in both Ireland and England, which influenced his accent and outlook. He felt different from his peers, noting that he analyzed his surroundings more deeply than others. Séamus won the All-Ireland Poetry Slam in 2011 and identifies as a "post-Gaeltacht" poet. His work blends urban speech and internet slang with the Munster Irish dialect. He has strong ties to the Corca Dhuibhne area, where he has lived and worked. A Fulbright scholar and University College Galway graduate, Séamus conducted doctoral research on Maidhc File, son of Peig Sayers, a figure often referenced in his rap lyrics.
