She joined the Peace Corps, but then realized the people weren't really being helped. They were completely ignored by their governments. She decides to try to help, so she foments a revolution in Honduras. She is shot in the eye by the CIA, but, though badly injured, she doesn't die. She is spirited out of Honduras, returned to the U.S., and after extensive medical attention, she gradually recovers. She moves to Reno, NV to live with her niece. She doesn't return to her husband, who continues to shower her with money and cars. He doesn't understand why she stopped loving him. She dies in a local hospital, with her niece holding her hand.
