In Mr Menton's second tale, "Sayidati Zenobia", he describes a pupil-teacher infatuation gone badly wrong... For the tutor... Meaning the life of the lecturer and faithless husband tutoring a Yemeni undergrad is about to take a downward turn. This when that undergrad and heiress decides he will be much better suited in a different role... That role being a position at her side in her own country, rather than the one he currently occupies in the halls of academe... A life in that country spent at her feet!
The triad concludes with Estelle Marchant's "Madam Quadira, as a happy husband and contented father, project-managing in the middle-east to provide his family with a nest-egg, ill-advisedly drinks far too much one evening and lands himself in a prison cell... But, as if this were not bad enough, he finds he has come to the attention of the wealthy and powerful Madam Quadira... A wealthy and powerful woman who decides she'd prefer it if he remained in her land... For good!
