Henderson who spent 22 years as a UCC missionary in Angola from 1947 to 1969. It is remarkable for its broad inclusion of the Catholic church and the many Protestant denominations active in Angola. Lawrence W. Henderson was born in Tacoma, Washington, USA in 1921 and died in 2003. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound and Yale Divinity School. He married Muriel Woods in 1943 and they had 4 children, 2 of whom were born in Angola. They worked in Angola as missionaries for the United Church Board for World Ministries from 1947 until 1969. He was the author of Angola: Five Centuries of Conflict and A Igreja em Angola: Um Rio com Varias Correntes (also published in English as The Church in Angola: A River of Many Currents)
