All those anonymous characters, gullible people, obsessed with their petty malices, swindles, vengeances and mischiefs, those benign drunks and obese women, patients and their doctors, frustrated spouses and malicious neighbours, waiters, civil servants and their bosses, actually an entire gallery of weirdos, appear in awkward situations, so recognizable that they force the reader to stop and reflex. At the same time reader will probably have a feeling s/he already somehow and somewhere has seen those characters. Seen where? Well, of course at home, in the neighbourhood, on the street, in a favourite bar, at work, on the beach...
Ultimately, this humour is benevolent and therefore recognized by different generations of readers. It truly enriches our somewhat gloomy and harsh everyday life and brings a breath of gaiety which tells us that life should be looked at from its funny side.
