Quesnel''s career in his country was short-lived, as he did not manage to appear with FC Girondins de Bordeaux, eventually moving to AS Cannes in the second division. In 2000, he started an adventure in Portugal that would last five years, starting with second level''s Associação Naval 1º de Maio, signing with F.C. Alverca in the following year. After stellar performances at Alverca, then S.L. Benfica''s feeder club, which included the Portuguese Liga Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2001 02, even though his club suffered a relegation, Quesnel moved to precisely Benfica, on a three-year deal; however, being only third-choice behind José Moreira and Quim, he would spend the next one 1/2 seasons loaned, one of those back in his country, with Olympique de Marseille.
