Pavel Javornicky was born in 1932 in Prague, Czech Republic, which, at the time of his birth, was called Czechoslovakia. He earned his doctorate in biology at Caroline University in Prague and subsequently worked as a scientist at the Academy of Science in Prague. He spent one year at the University of California in Davis, where he worked with a team of scientists in the department of hydro-biology.
