Gregory Maguire is an American writer, author of the novels: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, and many others aimed at both children and adults. Many of this author's novels are revisions of children's classics. For example, in Wicked, he transformed the Wicked Witch of the West from L. Frank Baum's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, into the compassionate and green Elphaba; while in Mirror, Mirror, he reinterprets Snow White. Additionally, Wicked became a highly successful musical on Broadway. Gregory Maguire completed his university studies at the State University of New York at Albany and holds a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Tufts University.
