Developing a web-based project rather than a stand-alone application involves a particular set of challenges, but also provides new opportunities to meet the requirements of the user. Web applications often require a mixture of technologies which can work together on a single web page. In the example projects in this book, HTML, CSS, SQL, PHP, JavaScript and p5.js program code are mixed in convenient ways to achieve the required outcome. In Volume 1, a variety of business and information applications are developed. An object-oriented approach is used in the projects, with object classes forming a link between database tables and web pages. Methodologies are developed for transferring data between different web pages, and between PHP and JavaScript functions.
