On her 40th birthday, Autumn feels dissatisfied with her corporate job and feels lonely in her personal life. On the same day, she discovers that her billionaire supervisor has created an AI humanoid version of her to replace her at work, and that her 99-year-old Grandfather (a Japanese-American WWII Veteran), whom she feels close to, is dying. Autumn's supervisor has created an AI version of Autumn, in part, because she is single, doesn't fit in at work, and her supervisor perceives her as not contributing enough to the world. Soon after taking over her job, Autumn's AI clone threatens to take over her personal life as well. Autumn reluctantly contacts an old high school "frenemy" to assist her using a shared innate ability for interdimensional teleportation that they both have been aware of since childhood. Using their abilities, they travel through time to World War II to help Autumn's grandfather try to find peace with his past, and to enlist his younger self to help Autumn stop the AI version of herself from taking over her life in the present.
