It is located on the southern bank of the Murray River, opposite Corowa, New South Wales. Wahgunyah is approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) north of Rutherglen and 50 kilometres (31 mi) west of Albury and Wodonga. At the 2006 census, Wahgunyah had a population of 809.
