Population: 15,760 (2002 Census); 18,426 (1989 Census).Vyazemsky was founded in 1894 as a works settlement during construction of the railway between Khabarovsk and Vladivostok, which later became the easternmost section of the Trans-Siberian railway. The settlement and station were initially named Vyazemskaya ( ) after the lead engineer of the section, Orest Vyazemsky.
