This book is the second in a series of three, regarding the emancipation events of July 3, 1848 on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It is absolutely fascinating to hear the voices of the enslaved population themselves, which was rarely done during this era. We also found out what the "outside world" had to say about us which were included in the numerous newspaper articles written about our emancipation events of 1848.
