Virtual Reality Telecommunication Systems (VRTS) transmit human verbal and nonverbal communication messages, enabling the communicators to convey touch as well as sight and sound. This book will provide a broad overview of the current research in the area of creating future VRTS as well as present developments in closely-related areas. In a face-to-face conversation, only 10 % of the message is conveyed by words, the remaining 90 % is carried via vocal pitch, emphasis, facial expressions, body language, and other related factors. The challenge for future telecommunication systems lies in its ability to convey the entire message including visual and tacile impressions.
Virtual Reality Telecommunication Systems (VRTS) will transmit human verbal and nonverbal communication messages, therefore human to network interface considerations are essential. The VRTS will attempt to capture the entire human body by a set of sensors at the transmitting end and will convey these feelings to the human body at the receiving end with actuators.
