JIM CAMP was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. His interests were anything mechanical, and he enjoyed tearing things apart and putting them back together again: everything from lawn mowers to motorcycles and automobile engines. After he graduated from high school, he joined the navy during the Vietnam Era. When he returned, he went to night school and obtained his BS degree in mechanical engineering. He had several jobs as a physical science technician, quality engineer, project engineer and quality/test engineer before leaving corporate America. In December of 1993, Jim decided to start his own business and founded Metropolitan Home Inspections. He soon realized that although challenging, it was also very rewarding, as he was helping people understand the overall condition of the home or rental property they were about to choose. He is a certified home inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and is also licensed with the State of Colorado, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), and certified through the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) to perform Radon testing throughout the State. He has inspected thousands of single-family homes, up to sixteen-unit multifamily complexes, townhomes, condominiums, manufactured homes, cabins, and small commercial buildings. Many of these inspections were rentals or rentals with an option to buy. This is where he honed his skills and what prompted him to write this book, which was solely based upon his experiences, along with viewing the conditions of many of the properties he's inspected throughout the years. Jim takes pride in what he does and thoroughly explains to each tenant the workings and overall condition of the home, regardless of what type of structure it is.
