The procedure is a success and Derek becomes Clara. He and Mike split up, but later get back together and even wed, once it becomes clear that Mike is in love with the person that Derek/Clara is and not his/her gender. This story tells all the cultural things that discriminate against straight men and gay men everywhere they go but especially on the job.
