After a long and successful life that included surviving World War II, earning a master's degree in English literature from Columbia and a career as Vice President of Finances at Lincoln University, Earle was eager to reinvent himself. He wanted to immerse himself in another culture in Mexico. Accompanied by a hybrid wolf he named Runner, Earle moved to Álamos, Mexico in the state of Sonora, where he began learning Spanish and hunting for an adobe house to buy, renovate and transform into a Spanish-style home for the two of us to share. But first, he had to battle the elements, find a team of maestros to build three gravity-defying domes and make friends from both sides of the border to help him turn his dream into a reality. As much as he loved titillating his audience, Earle Winderman was a thoughtful, serious person. A keen observer of his surroundings and people from all walks of life, Earle had a subtle, insightful bent that came through in the letters he wrote during what was to be his penultimate life chapter in Álamos, Mexico where he retired. He often referred to them as "epistles"--from the Greek word epistole for message or letter--a half serious, half playful reference to a literary work in the form of a series of letters. It was a trying but rewarding experience for Earle, hence the title, Trauma & Drama. He had not been prepared for all the help he would need. The names of everyone he ran into, both Mexican and American, fill three pages. Earle was known about town for his friendly and helpful personality and especially for his beautiful hybrid wolf companion named Runner. His trials and triumphs are recorded in this series of letters full of humor, wit and colorful anecdotes about his quest to restore a Spanish-style adobe home.
