Over ten years after the lessons of the first gulf war had been absorbed and the Global Transportation Network was initiated, the DoD continues to struggle with tactical in-transit visibility. Now the DoD has mandated that the supply chain, including DoD vendors, apply a new and potentially revolutionary technology, passive radio frequency identification, to solve this problem. However, many issues central to passive RFID implementation remain unresolved. First and foremost, a comprehensive management strategy, including a complete redesign of business practices, must be developed.
