In the schooling and educational processes, America does not provide systematic training on how to be a parent. Parents come in all forms. There are birth parents, adoptive parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, single parent families, mixed families, and a variety of other configurations of people who are families. Most families include children. In the days of old, a man usually brought his bride home to his mother. His mother usually socialized his wife on her roles as wife and mother. Often, the bride's mother lived nearby. This picture has changed and young couples or individuals with children often live miles away from their families. They may see their parents and other relatives on few occasions. As a consequence, the support and training system no longer is available. The families with children do not have a place to learn how to raise children. The home of parents is not nearby usually. The school does not offer training in child rearing except in rare cases. The community provides little help. Thus, parents are left to how they were raised, what they read, and what others tell them. The child rearing practices become a hit and miss situation.
