Laozi, also known as Lao Tzu or Lao-Tse, was a semi-legendary Chinese philosopher and the author of the Tao Te Ching, one of the foundational texts of Taoism, alongside the Zhuangzi. Little is known about his life, and much of what is believed about him is based on legend. It is traditionally thought that he lived around the 6th century BCE during the Zhou Dynasty.
