There may be an undercurrent of threats and promises to pave the way toward increased income and status. Dr. Gannett, a former surgeon, becomes the Medical Center Director, supervising all four hospitals in the town, a lucrative position with great respect. But he sees on the horizon a tempting way to improve his situation even more. Meeting many obstacles in his path he becomes a changed man, forceful, demanding, threatening those who oppose him in his climb to greater authority.
