In the year 2010/11 the Government of Zambia lost substantial amount of money through FRA. The FRA, a government parastatal, was established in 1996 by the Food Reserve Act of 1995.Food Reserve Agency was created with the sole purpose of procuring, managing and maintaining of the National maize strategic reserves through the buying of maize from the small scale farmers. In the year 2010/11 FRA purchased 244,869 x 50 Kg bags of maize and in 2011/12 respectively it purchased 557,157 x 50 Kg bags of maize only in Nyimba District in the Eastern province of the country. The district had inadequate holding depots that were not enough to accommodate the stocks. The agency failed to anticipate climate variability and change and the maize got soaked due to inadequate taupulins the agency provided to cover the maize that was kept outside the sheds. This triggered maize to got rotten and became unfit for human consumption and industrial use. This worst situation compelled the government to destroy thousands of discolored and rotten maize. This book highlights possible challenges encountered during this marketing season. The book is useful to police markers ,academicians and anyone.
