Once taught to the child they may need reminders to use it but once ingrained it can be very effective. Children often need help with big problems, but can be taught how to solve small ones. Along with the system my students were also taught various plans to follow for specific issues. For example, how to listen, how to handle a feeling problem, or how to protect themselves.
