1883. A lecture delivered at Central Music Hall, Chicago on November 28, 1882. The subject matter of this lecture is that in modern civilization the press, the pulpit and the stage are the three great powers for good and evil. While the author thinks it is time for the stage to assume a position and talk back, he does not apologize for it; nor is he simply there to censure the pulpit and condemn the press. These two forces set up an ideal of perfection and each thinks of itself as infallible.
