Always a champion for the downtrodden, we find Nellie meeting with the poor in New York tenements, protecting the unknowing against scams, and peeling back the curtain on the growing concern of women being enticed into betting parlors. Finally, Nellie Bly offers some of her most poignant work in coverage of the Pullman Strike of 1894. Initially intending to write a series of articles criticizing striking railroad workers, Nellie's investigation uncovers painful truths about the working conditions of blue-collar Americans, prompting her to disparage the company instead, decrying the conditions put upon their employees.
