A favorite son of the small Midwestern town of Chasterton is found dead in the home of an old girlfriend, Kelly Mendoza. Charged with murder, Mendoza accepts the seventy-six-year-old Kenneth Rees as her attorney. Unbeknownst to his new client, Rees had once been Mayor of Chasterton. His failed stint as mayor would lead Rees down a long journey which, some fifty years later, thrust him into the greatest trial in town history.
