Autorenporträt

Born in Portuguese Bend on the Palos Verdes Penninsula, I grew up in San Pedro, on the harbor of Los Angeles. After a stint in Air Force Intelligence intercepting Morse code during the Cold War I played and dealt poker in Las Vegas at some of the famous Strip casinos like the Silverbird (formerly the Thunderbird), the Landmark (featured in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever) and the Circus Circus, among others. In 1980 I beat the builder/owner of the iconic Strat (Stratosphere) Casino and Las Vegas mayoral candidate Bob Stupak in the first one-on-one "Beat the Boss" poker tournament.Later I worked in the burgeoning Gardena poker clubs before leaving poker behind and moving to the Big Island of Hawaii when I became a father.Fatherhood soon turned out to be single-fatherhood and I raised my one and only child, a son, in the beautiful jungle of Puna, outside Hilo.For five years I was the State Co-Chair of the Green Party of Hawaii but finally left the party over their insistence of running presidential candidates when my focus was on local ecological issues.All of my adult life I have written short stories and in my later years I have written a 300-page memoir, but nothing has ever been published.The Little Snowflake is my first children's book.
