Chapter one discussed the origin of modern international arbitration up till the establishment of the International Court of Justice. Chapters two and three examined the different regional courts and arbitral tribunals in Europe, Africa and the Americas alongside other specialised international and ad hoc tribunals located in these continents. It also compared arbitration and judicial settlement of disputes. Chapter four dealt with the background developments that lead to the proliferation of international courts and arbitral tribunals. Chapter five is the conclusion of the essential issues raised in the initial chapters and went further to make some scintillating recommendations to enhance the performance of the International Court of Justice whichis one of the major reasons for the emergence and proliferation of these regional courts and arbitral tribunals in the face of the existing International Court of Justice.
