"Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri (MD, DM, FACG, FRCP, FAMS, WHO-fellow) is a medical specialist, teacher, researcher, philanthropist and writer.He graduated from JIPMER, Pondicherry, and trained at the All India institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Through fellowships and friendships he trained and observed patient-doctor relationships from several regions of India, Nagoya University, Japan, Kreiskrankenhaus Völklingen, Germany, University of Sydney, Australia", but retained and nurtured his connect with the innumerable Indian patients he served in India.During his over 42 years as a medical specialist, Dr. Choudhuri has been professor and head of Gastroenterology at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, President of the National Indian Society of Gastroenterology, and has played a leadership role in developing liver and digestive healthcare in the country.He strongly believes that awareness on health issues, helps individuals live better and tackle challenges more efficiently and effectively when they arise. His passion led him to create Hope Initiative (www.hope.org.in) in 2004 through which he campaigned to including health as a component of school education.
