The girl with the heart of gold is their voice. The author states boldly that her diagnosis hasn't changed, she still has asthma; but what has changed is her heart. Asthma no longer controls her destiny, but rather she controls it. She has overcome what made her different from other kids, to become the difference for all children who are faced with struggles.
